How to move the Google Chrome Browser bookmarks to a new computer

Google Chrome includes a bookmark management tool that allows you to organize your bookmarks, export them for backup or import them from another computer. Please follow these steps below:

Step 1
You need to insert a removable storage device such as a USB flash drive into the old computer, and then launch Google Chrome Browser.

Step 2
Click the spanner icon in the upper-right corner of the Google Chrome window, and then click “Bookmarks” and “Bookmark Manager” A new browser tab opens, displaying all of your stored bookmarks.

Step 3
Click the “Organize” button in the upper-left corner of the browser tab, and then click “Export Bookmarks to html file.” A new window with the title “Save As” appears.

Step 4
Navigate in the “Save As” window to the removable storage device, and then click the “Save” button. Google Chrome Browser automatically gives the file a name such as “bookmarks_16_12_2011.html.”

Step 5
Transfer the removable storage device to the new computer, and launch Google Chrome Browser.

Step 6
Click the spanner icon, and then click “Bookmarks” and “Bookmark Manager.”

Step 7
Click the “Organize” button, and then click “Import Bookmarks from html file…” A new window titled “Open” appears.

Step 8
Navigate in the “Open” window to the removable storage device, and double-click the Google Chrome bookmarks file. A new folder called “Imported” appears on the left side of the Bookmark Manager tab. Now you can click the “Imported” folder to see your bookmarks.

Another way of transfering all your Google Chrome Browser Settings to a new computer is by copying the following folders from old computer and replacing themĀ  with same Google Chrome folders in the new computer. This is what you need to do:

Please open following folder with Windows Explorer:

Windows Xp

C:/Documents and Settings/User Name/Local Settings/Application Data/Google/Chrome/User Data

Windows Vista

C:/Users/User Name/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data

Windows 7

C:/Users/User Name/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data

Please change User Name with your computer name in order to open User Data files. Now you can copy User Data folder’s contents and paste it to a storage device such as a USB flash drive. Go to your new computer and replace it with the same folders. All your Google Chrome Browser Settings should be there!
