How to use Google Chrome Browser spellcheck

Google Chrome’s built-in spellchecker can automatically check your spelling in web forms and text fields.

Adjust spellchecker settings

• Click the spanner icon on the browser toolbar.
• Select Options (Preferences on Mac and Linux).
• Click the Under the Bonnet tab.
• In the “Web Content” section, click Languages and spellchecker settings.
• In the Languages and Input dialogue that appears, use the “Enable spellchecking” checkbox to turn the spellchecker on or off.

If you want to use the spellchecker, select the language that you want to use from the list and click Use this language for spellchecking on the right. If the language isn’t listed, first add it as one of your preferred languages.

There’s a chance that the language you add may not have a spellchecker dictionary available. If that’s the case, you won’t be able to check your spelling in that language.

Adding a new word to the dictionary

If the spellchecker keeps underlining a word that you often use, right-click the word and select Add to dictionary. At this time, it’s not possible to remove a word from the dictionary.

Temporarily turning the spellchecker off

You can temporarily disable the spellchecker for the field in which you’re typing. This is what you need to do:

• Right-click the text field.
• Select Spellchecker options.
• Deselect “Check the spelling of this field“.

If you regularly use the web in multiple languages, it is also possible to switch easily between different language dictionaries as you type.
