Webpages load slowly or don’t load at all

Multiple reasons could be preventing webpages from loading quickly in Google Chrome Browser. First, check if the page loading issue is specific to Google Chrome by opening the same pages in other browsers on your computer, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.

If pages are loading slowly only in Google Chrome Browser, then try the following suggestions:

Open pages in an incognito window

If pages open normally in an incognito window, this may indicate an issue with any extensions you may have installed or with your browsing data, both of which are temporarily disabled when you are incognito. Try the following solutions:

  • Close all Google Chrome windows by clicking the Chrome menu and selecting Exit (Mac: Use Quit to close all windows). Then restart the browser.
  • Clear your cookies, cache, and browsing history
  • Try disabling all your extensions, exit or quit Chrome, then restart. If the page displays correctly, re-enable the extensions one by one to identify which extension isn’t behaving properly.

Check your antivirus and firewall settings.

Make sure Google Chrome Browser is allowed in these programs to make incoming and outgoing connections.

Temporarily disable Predict network.

Follow these steps:

  1. Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click Show advanced settings.
  4. In the “Privacy” section, deselect “Predict network actions to improve page load performance.”

Check for malware.

Check your computer for malware that could be preventing Google Chrome Browser from connecting to a web server.

If you experience similar problems loading pages in other browsers on your computer, here are a few suggestions:

  • Try visiting another site. The site you’re trying to open may be temporarily down.
  • Are you experiencing page loading issues in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, but not Firefox? If so, this could indicate an issue with your proxy setup. If you use a proxy server, try turning it off in your Windows network settings. See more information in the Microsoft help site.
  • Close other programs that you have opened on your computer. They may be using up a lot of memory on your computer, causing your browsers to behave slowly.
  • Restart your computer.
